hola xx must be quick, no internet lately, and not much time. someone please back this and pics up for me xx
22 March 2011
We arrived in Mancora, Peru, about 4.30pm, went to our hotel in little tuk-tuks which was fun. Mancora is all dirt alleyways between the beach and a stony cliff a few hundred metres back from the beach. Very funky. Got to our hotel Las Olas and it was literally on the beach. In fact, there was a very high tide and it was coming in to all the town, sandbags everywhere to try stop it. We went for a dip, my first in the Pacific Ocean! was very strong current. We then went out for dinner at El Mero Munique (pescados y mariscos) and to a bar fo some Cuba Libres. Lots of little restaurantsand bars everywhere in the laneways.
Next day woke at 8, went and spent a few hours on thebeach, swimming and laying about. Underestimated the Peruvian sun (forgot we were close to the equator! doh!) and got really bad sunburn. Went to lunch at this place with a view of town, tried more local beer. its all been pretty good so far. Came back to hotel after lunch went on beach, then Tara popped back to her room and she had been burgalled!! everything valuable gone. Bankcards, money, ipod, medicines, phone, camera, and a bunch of other stuff which i hae no idea what theif would want. They even took her contraceptive pill, so thats gonna screw up her holiday alone. She freaked out a bit, but we were all impressed with how well she handled it. All of my group was there for her instantly, everyne taking on a task to help her. We are like a little family. She is fine now. The hotel staff were shockingly uncaring and unhelpful to the point where we were gonna leave the hotel. Carlos had a fight with the manager man, he was a frickin asshole! We are all going to write to gap and tell them never to give them business again.
We went to dinner at an awesome little laneway cafe, El Aji, about 20 steps form the hotel and had fajitas and these delicious massive Piña Coladas
Had brekky at the hotel, packed and checked out for 12. Used a room as storage for our luggage. Went to lunch and dinner at the same El Aji place as we couldnt get enough of it! And besides, we were all in love with the supremely hot russian girl who worked there. All the girls turned gay for a minute, thats how beautiful she was. Had buffalo wings, Nachos, Chicken, was great. And of course, more Piña Coladas. SO yum. We were getting a nightbus at about 11pm, so hung out at restaurant until then. We took took-tooks to the bus terminal, a bit tipsy, and our bus was an hour and a half late, so we hung out on the kerb until it came. Was quite the scene. Ian and Carlos doing Tai Chi, Heather and Meli dancing to their ipods (and getting beeped at by motorists looking for hookers), Tara being hilarious loud drunk wanting to get on chicken trucks that went by. The locals must of thought we were nutters. Got the bus at 1230am, was cramped and packed and no loos and horrible, didnt look forward to the next 10hrs.
We arrived in Trujillo just before 10am. Took taxis to Huanchaco which is about 15 to 20 mins north, past the chan chan ruins which i could see from the car. quite an expanse. Hostal El Malecon, on beach. dodgy hotel, and not very nice beach. Went lunch just down road, had Filete pescade con salsa de langostinos. yummy. Walked about town and then sat on beach for a while. Had nap at hotel. Noone could connect with Huanchaco. Felt sort of likea ghost town. very odd. Dinner with everyone at a place called Jungle Bar Billy. A few of the uys had to send their meal back 3 times as cold. not good food. went to a bar, but also shit. Not a good night! shame as Carlos birthday tomorrow. Half of us called it a night and said we would re-attempt it the next night, and half went into trujillo with carlos.
The next day was sooo much better! Slept in, finally got some sleep. (bloody night busses!). Packed and checked out for 12. Went for lunch and wander around town with chris bec and heather. Accidebntally ordered the biggest hamburger i have ever seen in my life. I ordered chips with it, and no wonder the mwaiter thought i was mad ordering chips with it too. Was bigger than my head. so funny. Walked to a cathedral on hill behind town, great view. Walked along pier at beach. the town was setting up for their annual festival, Fiestas del XXXIV tradicional carnaval Hunachaquero Gran Fiesta, which we would miss that night as boarding another night bus. There was a surfing competition on, lots of stalls, a dj. Went to an awesome restaurant for dinner, posh for here, but still on 25 soles ($11). Yummy. Got nightbus at 1030pm to head to Lima, 10 -12hr journey. Carlos got us upgraded seats, and we were the happiest little campers, so luxurious compared to other buses wed been on, the seats were like beds! actually slept. went quick
